[Plugin] Meta Edit
« on: September 02, 2012, 10:02:03 pm »
Hi all,

This little plugin gives you the option to adjust the meta data a little. This plugin only works with 3.0 and up. The plugins menu option is located under the settings menu.

Hi Jay:

I'm trying to use it, but not seeing any settings in the admin panel or options in the item listings. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Update: Woops. I see it now in the admin panel under admin > show more > settings > meta options. It's cool. Seems to do the trick so far. I'll post back if I find any issues. Thanks again.

p.s. Suggestion...it would be nice if the structure of the meta description could be controlled as well. I think the current default meta description is , "category... description highlight ... category". It doesn't make for the most user-friendly search results. I'd like to just show the item description text in the meta description.

p.s.
I see in index.php of the plugin...I can change the output of the meta description for listings on lines 171-173. Here's what I changed it to, so that the meta description would show "osc item description...category, city". It shows up ok, but the city is missing from the end of the meta description when I view the source.

    // listing
    if( osc_is_ad_page() ) {
        $text = osc_highlight(osc_item_description(), 120) . ', ' . osc_item_category() . ' ' . metaCityShow();

pps. I'm guessing that the function osc_highlight has something to do with the "..." at the end of the item description. Do you know where I can find/modify the code for the osc_highlight function?

I was trying to get the item city location to show up in the meta description after the item description highlight and category. It was not working before. I changed the "metaCityShow" to "osc_item_city" and it worked. Line 173 on the meta plugin index.php file:

Original:
        $text = osc_highlight(osc_item_description(), 120) . ', ' . osc_item_category() . ' ' . metaCityShow();

Modified:
        $text = osc_highlight(osc_item_description(), 120) . ', ' . osc_item_category() . ' ' . osc_item_city();

Hi Maxo,

In 3.0 the osclass team made some changes to the admin menu which allows for adding the menu options under existing menus.

That is a great idea. I will add the option to control the meta description as well.

Yep the "..." is coming from the osc_highlight function. The function is defined in hUtils.php.

Thanks

Jay

Thanks Jay:

So far so good. You've made many cool plugins...have you thought about starting a forum thread that lists all the plugins you've made, descriptions of what they do with links to the most recent versions? I've seen multiple (yours and others) plugins that are not offered in the official osclass plugin guide which can be found by sifting and searching the forums...but it sure would be nice to have a one-stop shopping for plugins, organized in a better way. With some donation links for the developers as well...

Or maybe plugin developers could start including links to their plugins in their user profiles?

Hi Maxo,

There is a thread in the plugins board that lists all the user developed plugins.

I have the same issue with other pages with meta description shows empty.

Anyone have the solution?

FYI: In head.php we can add custom title or description.

Is it possible to add the ad id in the item titles and descriptions to avoid dublicate?

Hi Jay, thanks for this plugin!

Could you modify your plugin with some feature that generates and add keywords on pages like built-in meta description.

And I'm ready to help in testing!
