[PLUGIN] User Privacy Settings
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:29:34 pm »
Hi all

Please find my latest contribution of a User Privacy Settings plugin.

I have built and tested this around version 2.3.7 but I am looking for people to further test this on either the same or other versions, and post there outcomes please.

Please note that this plugin shouldnt be relied upon for live sites at this stage.

Many thanks

BV

Hi BusinessVendor,

I like the plugin. I did find a few small issues. The first one is that the user menu does not show up as there is not function named privacy_user_menu so I changed it to privacy_user_menu_std. The second change was in the privacy_edit.php file; I removed the redirect from the cancel button as it was always triggering so I could not get to that page. Other then that the plugin works great for me. I do have a few suggestions for your plugin as well I think it would be great if you also included instructions so the privacy settings could be used on the item page as well. My other suggestion is that you should start using the new DAO Method as I am thinking they are going to be phasing out the old database connection soon. http://doc.osclass.org/How_to_upgrade_your_plugins_to_new_DAO_classes

Looking forward to what you come up with in the future.

Hi Jay

Thanks for the feedback.

Ive amended the function named for the user_menu hook, so that should show now. I dont know why the redirect on the cancel button would keep triggering. What would you suggest to rectify it, other than removing it? Maybe a simple href? I thought maybe changing it to this,

Code: [Select]
<button onClick="<?php header ("Location: /index.php?page=custom&file=privacy/privacy.php"); ?>">Cancel</button>
I will expand the instructions to cover the item page in the next day or two.

You mentioned the DAO previously and Im all for it, but I wanted to see if this plugin would function as intended before I spent the time learning how the DAO method works. I'll be sure to use the DAO method on the next plugin, if not converting this one.

Hi BusinessVendor,

I am not sure either why it kept triggering. I removed the code and now when I click the cancel button it takes me back to the previous page so I do not think you need to have anything there.

I like this plugin a lot as it gives the users more control over what info is displayed to guest and users.

Hi Jay

Well I see what you mean now, thats whats happening for me. God knows why I added the onClick event. Ive updated my files accordingly for the next release.

I'm glad you like it. This was something I really needed for my own site, so as much as its rewarding by creating it for myself, its equally rewarding to know that others appreciate my work as well.

I thought a bit more about what you said with regards to instructions for the item page, and thought that maybe this needs to be an optional step. The reason being is that even though I can see that a typical classified site would have users posting items that would always be located in the same place, and that the location pre-populated in the item post form wouldn't change, the privacy settings wouldnt neccesarily be suitable for that page if for example you were running a real estate type classified where the users may be agents/brokers and need to post the location of the property or business for sale. What do you think?

Sorry for being a noob, but what does this plugin do?

Does it do anything different than adding a page named privacy and describing the privacy?

Does it work with modern theme 3.0+?

Thanks

Is this plugin ready to go live yet?  Can be used with osclass 3.1.2?

Cheers

Hello BusinessVendor & trains58554

As quoted below, I also get a blank page (using 3.2 with Bender theme)

Please update this post and fix if it is working with the current ver and new themes

Regards!
